The incident occurred on Sunday, September 8, before 4:00 p.m. A resident of Szczytnica (Warta Bolesławiecka municipality) heard four puppies whimpering; they were trapped in a roadside culvert. She wanted to help them herself, but was unable to do so, and therefore notified the emergency services.

Volunteer firefighters from Warta Bolesławiecka were dispatched to the scene and rescued the puppies. The firefighters:

After all the puppies were removed, the woman who reported the incident made the very important decision to care for all the abandoned dogs.
