The incident took place on Monday, September 2, in the early evening, on Zgorzelecka Street in Bolesławiec. The 61-year-old foreign national (as we unofficially managed to establish: a Briton who currently resides in the Nowogrodziec municipality) was drinking alcohol at one of the nearby venues. Then—as if nothing had happened—he got into his Volkswagen and tried to drive away.
He did not get away. Two witnesses to the incident apprehended him. Interestingly, both were former uniformed officers: one is a retired police officer from KPP Bolesławiec, while the other served in the Border Guard.
The witnesses called the police. At the time of his arrest, the foreign national was aggressive: he scratched and bit the officer intervening.
What is more, the 61-year-old refused to take a breathalyzer test, so blood was drawn from him. (According to the witnesses, however, the islander had consumed quite a lot).
The foreign national has already been charged with violating the bodily integrity of an officer. If it is confirmed that he tried to drive while intoxicated, he will face another charge. He could already face up to three years in prison.
(A veterinarian was also called to the scene because there were three dogs in the Briton’s car. Fortunately, nothing happened to the animals).
