On Wednesday, June 10, a gala celebrating the 50th anniversary of the General and Vocational Schools Complex in Bolesławiec was held at the Forum cinema. The ceremony was attended by, among others, Mayor Piotr Roman, County Head Cezary Przybylski, Deputy County Head Stanisław Chwojnicki, member of the Bolesławiec County Board Dariusz Kwaśniewski, County Council members, representatives of the uniformed services and directors of upper-secondary schools.

“An anniversary is an opportunity to recall our school’s historical achievements, its role in the local community, and to reflect on the path the institution has taken over half a century, as well as the challenges ahead,” Laura Słocka-Przydróżna, director of ZSOiZ, said during the ceremony. “Our school has changed over the past 50 years. But certain values have not changed. In times of declining respect for authority, our teachers have always found ways to shape patriotic and Christian attitudes. It was within these school walls that care was taken to protect the values embedded in the history and culture of our country: freedom, love, truth, tolerance and solidarity.

Bożena Browarczyk congratulated the school’s director on the anniversary on behalf of the Lower Silesian Board of Education. “Only moments are beautiful in life,” the official quoted the lyrics of a song by Dżem. “We are experiencing one of those moments in the history of ZSOiZ right now.

The gala also featured recollections. Ceramic artist Krystyna Gay-Kutschenreiter and Barbara Smoleńska, the institution’s longtime director, warmly recalled their work at the school. “For 11 years, I was immensely happy to be able to work with such a wonderful team,” Smoleńska stressed.

Everyone gathered in the Forum cinema hall listened to Danuta Maślicka’s lecture, “Let’s Hurry to Talk,” and watched an artistic program performed by ZSOiZ students.

“For our anniversary school, I wish for people with passion and a sense of vocation—people who will care for it over the next half-century,” Laura Słocka-Przydróżna said during the ceremony.
