On Friday, 19 July, an extraordinary session of the County Council was held in the conference room of the former seat of the Bolesławiec County Office. The two most important items were votes on draft resolutions concerning the “amendment of the Bolesławiec County budget for 2019” and the “amendment to the multi-year financial forecast of Bolesławiec County”.
The changes are connected with the Bolesławiec county hospital. “The director wants, within a fairly short time, first, to reduce the waiting time for basic services provided by our hospital in Bolesławiec (procedures related to endoprostheses). And second, to provide broader access to diagnostics: above all, CT and magnetic resonance imaging,” explained Bolesławiec County starosta Tomasz Gabrysiak during Friday’s Council session.Tomasz Gabrysiak.
The head of the Bolesławiec County Board added that County representatives had met with the heads of the municipalities and informed them that the county government would allocate nearly PLN 800,000 to purchase an MRI scanner. Moreover, the county officials asked the municipal authorities for support in this area. Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman initially declared nearly PLN 1.2 million for this purpose. “I hope that the other local governments will support us as well,” added T. Gabrysiak.
Kamil Barczyk (pictured), the new head of the county hospital, informed the councillors that, if everything goes according to plan, a diagnostic care unit would begin operating at the ZOZ as early as November.
The discussion was joined by Tomasz Matyjewicz, an independent opposition councillor, who immediately stressed that he himself had supported the candidacy of the new director of the county facility, K. Barczyk. However, he noted that the aforementioned purchases for the hospital meant increasing debt.
He added: “I think that during the proceedings of the committee I obtained a commitment from the director that he effectively guarantees, almost as if by contract, that the changes will be carried out successfully.”
At the end, the councillor appealed to the local government officials to monitor the hospital’s situation.
“This is something that the county’s residents have been entitled to for a long time,” stressed Tomasz Gabrysiak. He then addressed the councillors: “If we want our residents to be able to receive the most comprehensive healthcare possible right here, in Bolesławiec, I ask you to make this decision.”
The councillors unanimously adopted both resolutions.
