Officers from the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters received a report of a passenger car being stolen from a parking lot by a supermarket. The owner explained that he had left the car with a passenger inside, which was why the keys were still in the ignition.

Except that... the victim’s friend got out, leaving the Peugeot unattended. And… the opportunity was seized very quickly. The 22-year-old, seeing the car with the keys inside, got in and drove away.

Based on the information they had gathered, the police identified the theft suspect. The suspect was arrested the very next day.

The man confessed to the crime. He explained to the officers that when the fuel ran out, he abandoned the vehicle in a forest.

The 22-year-old now faces up to five years in prison.
