We had a brief respite, but it looks like the weekend in Lower Silesia will be hot again. Forecasters predict:
- for Saturday – maximum daytime temperature: 28°C to 30°C, minimum nighttime temperature: 15°C to 17°C
- for Sunday – maximum daytime temperature: 30°C to 33°C, minimum nighttime temperature: 18°C to 20°C.
WARNING! Heat is particularly dangerous for young children and elderly people, those with diabetes, hypertension or heart problems. People taking medication should also exercise particular caution.
How to get through a heatwave?
- avoid going outside during the hottest part of the day (10:00–17:00)
- avoid excessive sun exposure and sunbathing
- use sunscreen
- do not leave children, animals or flammable materials in the car
- wear loose, breathable clothing covering as much of the skin as possible; wear a hat and sunglasses
- drink plenty of fluids regularly
- avoid drinks containing alcohol and sugar
- eat light meals, paying particular attention to the freshness of the ingredients
- avoid physical exertion
- use cool showers and baths. (A completely cold shower during hot weather may cause thermal shock)
- avoid large temperature differences between air-conditioned rooms and cars and the outdoor temperature
- close and cover windows during the day
- stay in the coolest room in the house, especially at night
- take care of animals. Do not expose them to excessive sunlight, provide them with unlimited access to drinking water, and ventilate the rooms where they stay
- monitor your body's reactions during hot weather. If you feel unwell, contact a doctor.
