The tragedy occurred on Tuesday, June 11, before 1:00 p.m., on Ścinawska Street in Lubin. According to the police officers’ preliminary findings and eyewitness accounts, the 69-year-old woman riding a bicycle, when leaving the allotment gardens, probably failed to exercise particular caution, failed to yield the right of way and rode directly into the path of an approaching Seat car driven by a 22-year-old man.
The cyclist was taken to hospital, where she died the following day as a result of her injuries.
Police are investigating the circumstances of the tragedy. Officers say:
We appeal for caution and sound judgment on the road, as well as limited trust in other drivers. You should drive safely, at a speed suited to the prevailing conditions: traffic volume, weather and road surface conditions.
We appeal for driving in accordance with traffic regulations and common sense. We remind all road users, including pedestrians and cyclists, that road safety depends on us—on the decisions we make.
