II LO has been cooperating with foreign countries since 1996. Students from the school have visited, among others, the Netherlands, Belgium and Sweden. The school also maintained contacts with Australia and New Zealand. – Previously, our activities were focused primarily on Western countries, and all the projects were conducted in English – says Beata Sulska, headmistress of II LO. – We lacked German-language projects.

Starting on Monday, students from II LO will spend a week learning about the history and culture of Hungary. They will visit, among other places, the Parliament in Budapest and Lake Balaton. – The school chose students who are excellent at German – emphasizes Marcin Ostrowski, a German teacher and one of the project coordinators.

The students from II LO will communicate with their peers from Veszprém in Goethe’s language. – Last year I was in the Netherlands. I hope that this time it will be just as interesting and that this trip will improve our knowledge of German – says Katarzyna Habel, a student at II LO. – Hungary is a country from the former socialist bloc and is historically very close to Poland. That is why we are very happy that we can go there – adds Maciej Rajfur, a participant in the exchange.

Why Hungary in particular? – It seemed to us to be a very interesting country – emphasizes Beata Sulska. – Besides, as the historic saying goes, Pole and Hungarian brothers be – she smiles. – It is also an excellent incentive to learn foreign languages – says Marcin Ostrowski. – Our students will stay with Hungarian families, which will enable them to learn about the culture of this nation from as close a perspective as possible. This cannot be achieved by sitting at school.

Why is international cooperation so important? – Every cooperation breaks down barriers between people. It makes young people aware that the only barriers between people are geographical barriers – points out Beata Sulska.

The people of Veszprém will come to Poland in September.
