A resident of Wałbrzych met a man on one of the social media platforms who claimed to be an officer in the Lithuanian military serving in Yemen. They immediately hit it off.

The man told the woman about his difficult service and his desire to return to normal life. However, this required... money.

The woman from Wałbrzych believed the “soldier” and consequently lost several thousand zlotys.

Officers warn:

The fraudsters’ modus operandi is similar every time: making an acquaintance, exchanging increasingly personal messages, and sometimes promising a future together. All these efforts end with “borrowing” large sums of money.

What should we remember?

Fraudsters operating online have many fake accounts. They create an online persona, attach fake photos and describe their lives. They do everything to appear credible and lull the victim’s vigilance.

Police officers:

Let us not give in to temporary infatuation. Whenever someone tries to obtain money from us, we should exercise extreme caution and not hand it over to people who are, in reality, complete strangers.
