The Reader wrote to us about the “troublesome drive along Staszica Street” (the traffic lights next to Biedronka on Wróblewski Street in Bolesławiec):
Crossing the bypass at this location takes place simultaneously from both directions. The traffic-light cycle is fairly short, and “resourceful” drivers who pass on the right vehicles intending to turn left repeatedly cause dangerous situations at the intersection.
The result? Traffic jams at the intersection. And, as the Reader adds, only 3–4 cars pass through the intersection instead of 10.
The person reporting the issue suggests:
Could the solution be to contact the traffic-signal operator so that traffic at this location is allowed separately from each side?
Joanna Borkowska, spokesperson for the Wrocław branch of the General Directorate for National Roads and Motorways:
Our services inspected the traffic lights in question; specifically, all radar vehicle and pedestrian detectors were checked. We found no malfunction in the operation of the signals. The signal program is operating correctly in accordance with the approved traffic-organisation design.
The spokesperson added:
Due to the lower traffic volume, the traffic-light cycle is shorter at the entrances from subordinate roads onto national road No. 94. At present, national road No. 94 operates under a traffic-light program in which vehicles pass separately from each side.
And she emphasized:
Introducing such a solution for subordinate roads would shorten the green-light signal for road No. 94 and, consequently, cause the national road in Bolesławiec to become congested, as well as block the two roundabouts located near the intersection.
