The International Bench Press Competition was held on Saturday, 16 May, at the I LO sports hall. Forty strongmen took part in the tournament, including representatives of sports clubs and unaffiliated strength athletes. The athletes competed in three age categories and nine weight categories. In the juniors’ category, Bartłomiej Cierlik from Activ club proved the best, pressing 172.5 kg. Grzegorz Nowicki, representing Cezar club, came second, while Marcin Trefler from Stary Węgliniec came third.
In the seniors’ category, Andrzej Kocyła from Złotoryja won. The strongman pressed 207.5 kg. Krzysztof Zakrzewski from Rzepin came second, and Jakub Litwin from Bogatynia third.
In the veterans’ category, Henryk Romanek from Struga won, pressing 200 kg. Dariusz Bojarczuk from Berlin came second, while Wiesław Warzybok from Cezar came third.
The winners in the weight categories were:
- Kamil Niedbach from Złotoryja – 56 kg category
- Marcin Trefler from Stary Węgliniec – 60 kg category
- Damian Lisowik from Cezar club – 67.5 kg category
- Grzegorz Nowicki from Cezar – 75 kg category
- Dawid Kalarus from Lubin – 82.5 kg category
- Michał Eichstad from TKKF Bolesławianka – 90 kg category
- Andrzej Kocyła from Złotoryja – 100 kg category
- Paweł Nowak from TKKF Bolesławianka – 110 kg category
- Henryk Romanek from Struga – over 125 kg category.
The competition was held as part of the 2009 Open Bolesławiec Championships. The strongman tournament was accompanied by a fitness marathon and an overnight spinning marathon. Twenty-seven women started the aerobics marathon, and 20 completed it.
The Night Spinning Marathon was also held on Saturday. The event, in which 18 people took part, was held at the Biological Regeneration Centre of the MOSiR Indoor Swimming Pool. All participants completed the marathon.
