Easter is just around the corner. On April 19, the “Easter 2019” police operation began; it will last until April 22.

Officers:

This will be a period of increased activity for Lower Silesian police officers. Their main task will be to ensure safety in cities and the smooth and safe movement of travelers, as well as to provide assistance whenever necessary.

Many people will certainly spend a great deal of time on the road. We will travel by rail, coach or private car. That is why police officers will pay particular attention to ensuring travelers’ safety.

The heaviest holiday traffic will probably be seen on the roads. Therefore, more traffic patrols will be on duty during this period.

Officers will appear not only on the main routes in our region, but also on local roads. Wherever necessary, police patrols will be deployed in a cascade formation and will pay particular attention to reckless drivers.

Police:

We should all care about safety, so it is worth preparing for the journey in advance.

What should we remember?

  • when setting out on a longer journey, we should be well rested
  • before leaving, we should check our car: whether its technical inspection is valid, whether the lights work properly, whether there is washer fluid, whether there is a fire extinguisher, a spare wheel, etc.
  • we should check the documents for both the car and the driver
  • we should prepare a travel plan: the route, places where we can rest during the journey and refuel
  • we should use seat belts and equipment for transporting children safely
  • we should adjust our speed to the road conditions and our abilities; the slower you drive, the safer you are,
  • we should NEVER get behind the wheel after drinking alcohol.

Before leaving, we should also remember to secure our apartments and houses. All windows and doors should be closed. If we have anti-burglary blinds, they should be lowered—we installed them for a reason.

Let us ask a trusted neighbor to keep an eye on the apartment while we are away. We should not leave signs indicating our absence, such as scattered advertisements on the doormat or correspondence in the mailbox. We should not leave the apartment keys in an agreed place, such as a storage compartment or under the doormat.

What about Easter Monday water-fighting?

Officers warn:

Let us remember that the popular Śmigus-Dyngus tradition must not turn into behavior that can clearly be described as hooliganism. The conduct of people who celebrate this tradition improperly—for example, pouring excessive amounts of water or waste onto passers-by from multistory buildings, or throwing water-filled plastic bags from overpasses at passing cars—may create a traffic hazard, violate personal inviolability, cause bodily harm, damage property or violate the peace of the home.

As a result of their irresponsible behavior, perpetrators may face criminal liability.

Let us remember that Easter Monday water-fighting is a tradition of sprinkling people with water, in which moderation and good manners should be observed. Dousing random passers-by with water may expose us to material losses—for example, if expensive clothing is damaged.

Water should not be thrown on the streets, because children often run into the roadway in the heat of the fun, breaking all traffic regulations, while wet pavement may prove to be an unpleasant and consequential surprise for approaching cars.

We also warn people who enjoy collective and persistent water-dousing about the legal consequences associated with all hooligan incidents.

And they add:

We wish you a safe and peaceful Easter.
