County officials:

For years, the square at the intersection of Zgorzelecka and Łokietka streets has served as a “bus station” for passengers using the services of private companies. The conditions there—the lack of a toilet and a metal container instead of a waiting room—fall far short of all standards.

This makeshift stop primarily serves students. Nevertheless, it is also used by adults, often elderly and ill, who travel to Bolesławiec from all localities in Bolesławiec County and the neighboring counties.

“Starting in September, many more students will attend Bolesławiec schools,” says starosta Tomasz Gabrysiak. “After all, two year groups will enter secondary and vocational schools: primary- and middle-school graduates, as well as a whole host of students from the higher grades. They must be served with dignity. They cannot stand in the rain and frost. Younger and older students alike must wait for transport in safe conditions,” the starosta adds.

Meanwhile, the PKS bus station has toilets and a warm waiting room, as well as covered bus stops.

The section of the street where private carriers stop is narrow. During the morning and afternoon rush hours, when there are the most passengers and buses stop alongside the sidewalk, passengers cross the street without seeing, behind the vehicles, cars approaching from the direction of Zgorzelec. Traffic jams often form.

What is the County’s plan?

The County Board will negotiate with private carriers on the terms of using the bus station. The fees are to be symbolic.
