According to schedule, work is underway to electrify the Węgliniec–Zgorzelec section. Since 11 March, the overhead contact system has been installed above track no. 1. This work will continue until 23 April, after which work will begin on track no. 2. Earlier, as part of this phase of the project, the necessary support structures were installed along the entire route, including 920 poles and 54 gantries, on which the overhead contact system has been installed. All work is being carried out while train services continue on the adjacent track.

An important element of the project is the construction of two new traction substations in Pieńsk and Zgorzelec, which are intended to provide adequate power for the electrified route. The construction of the buildings has already been completed, and preparations are underway to bring in cables and install the equipment. Work related to the construction of power lines and feeders is nearing completion.

The railway line from Węgliniec to Zgorzelec is the last unelectrified section of the E30 main railway line, the principal route running across the southern part of the country from east to west. It connects important centres in the country—Kraków, the Upper Silesian Industrial District and Wrocław—and provides connectivity for international transport.

Completion of this project will increase the route’s capacity and, most importantly, shorten train journey times, as changing locomotives in Węgliniec will no longer be necessary. The entire E30 railway route in Poland, from the country’s western to eastern border—from Zgorzelec to Przemyśl—will be traversable using a single electric traction system.

The project is scheduled for completion by the end of this year. The total project value is PLN 70 million, including PLN 59.5 million in EU funding.
