Only parents of a child who has not yet turned eight may submit the application. To be able to stay at home with the child, it is enough to submit to your employer an application for payment and a statement concerning the unforeseen closure of the nursery, preschool or school. The benefit, which may be claimed by either the child’s father or mother, is paid at the rate of the sickness benefit, i.e. 80 percent of the salary.
However, several conditions must be met in order to receive it:
- the child must be no older than 8
- no one other than the guardian (parent) may care for the child while the school is closed
- the closure of the institution attended by the child must be unforeseen, meaning that the parents learned about it less than seven days in advance
The documents that must be submitted to the workplace in order to be granted and paid the care benefit are the parent’s statement concerning the unforeseen closure of the institution and an application for payment of the care benefit on the ZUS Z-15 form.
