Police officers from the Wrocław provincial headquarters, who deal with combating cybercrime on a daily basis, together with criminal division officers and police officers from Bolesławiec, detained four people suspected of defrauding one woman of more than half a million zlotys using the “police officer” method.
The whole case began with a single phone call, during which the caller, posing as a police officer, misled the victim. He convinced her that the money in her account was at risk.
The frightened woman gave the criminals authorization codes, which enabled them to withdraw funds from the victim’s account. The victim lost more than half a million zlotys!
The police operation was carried out simultaneously in two provinces: Lower Silesian and Masovian. The result? Four people suspected of fraud were detained.
All four were taken to police detention cells. Officers are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the criminal operation allegedly carried out by the suspects.
Fraud is punishable by up to 8 years in prison.
