The incident occurred on Tuesday, March 5. A community police officer from the Police Station in Przewóz (Żary County) received a telephone report from an employee of the local filling station about a man who had stolen fuel and, while driving away, had nearly run over the person who reported him.

The fleeing man headed towards the border, driving a VW Golf.

The police immediately set off in that direction. After driving a short distance, they spotted the described vehicle. They promptly began taking steps to stop it, using their lights and siren.

However, the driver did not react. On the contrary, he accelerated and began to flee.

The fugitive sped along the middle of the road through Gozdnica and then onto provincial road No. 350, heading towards Ruszów. The vehicle’s window was open, so when the officers were very close, they shouted at him to stop the vehicle.

But he still did not react. What is more, he tried to force the police car off the road with his vehicle. He repeated the maneuver moments later, this time successfully, hitting the officers’ car.

Fearing for their own lives and health, as well as those of other road users, the officers shouted: “Stop, police, pull over or I will shoot!”

There was still no reaction, so the officers shot at the fleeing vehicle’s tire. The Golf’s driver veered towards the forest. After a moment, he stopped the car and began fleeing on foot.

It did not help much, as he was arrested shortly afterwards.

The fugitive turned out to be a 27-year-old resident of Bolesławiec County. A drug tester detected methamphetamine in the driver’s saliva. The man’s blood was taken for testing.

The 27-year-old was taken to police custody. He will now face the consequences of his actions in court.
