The tragedy occurred after 4:00 a.m. at 5 Kilińskiego Street in Bolesławiec. Police received a report of a disturbance in an apartment block. Upon arriving at the scene, they found a bloodied woman, approximately 30 years old, lying on the staircase and showing no signs of life.
A young man, approximately 30 years old, killed his child and repeatedly wounded a woman. He threw the body of a 3.5-year-old boy out of the window.
During the arrest, police shot the man in the abdomen. He is currently in hospital and has undergone surgery.
– The man was aggressive toward the police officers intervening. Our preliminary assessment is that there were grounds for using a firearm, says Ewa Łomnicka, head of the District Prosecutor's Office in Bolesławiec.
At present, no one is allowed onto the staircase where the tragedy occurred. Officers are questioning residents of the building.
Unofficially, we know that disturbances had repeatedly occurred in the apartment where the tragedy took place.
– The family moved to this place about 2.5 years ago. There were arguments, but I do not know whether anyone had previously called the police, says one of the local residents, who wishes to remain anonymous.
