The Sunday trading ban and its effects are being thoroughly analysed by those in power. A special report on the matter was prepared by the Sejm Analysis Office. It shows that the trading ban led to increased sales in shops at petrol stations and... discount stores. Small shops saw their turnover decline. In addition, during the period when the Sunday trading ban was in force, several thousand small shops ceased to exist.
According to the Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers, as many as more than 15,000 small shops may have gone bankrupt because of the ban. People began stocking up on Fridays and Saturdays in supermarkets, and small shops only suffered as a result. The regulation also failed to achieve its intended goal, which was to increase employment in micro-enterprises.

Meanwhile, the “Solidarity” trade union believes that the law banning Sunday trading is a success. Alfred Bujara of “Solidarity” spoke on the matter, as quoted by tvn24.pl:
It is untrue that small shops are closing down because they used to close down every year. This law has been positively received by society. No one took to the streets because of it, and no one died because these shops were closed.
The tvn24.pl portal also quotes the prime minister:
Today we are reviewing precisely what impact this law has had on smaller shops, larger shops, and family-owned shops, but above all on people, Mateusz Morawiecki said on 5 February.
Should the trading ban continue to apply, or should it perhaps be eased or abolished? What do you think?
