As reported by officers from the Bolesławiec County Headquarters of the State Fire Service:
Part of the gable wall of a building located by the district road in Patoka collapsed. It turned out that the building had been unoccupied for a long time. It was also found that a fire had occurred in the building at least several months earlier. The rafters weakened by the fire and exposed to weather conditions for many months were unable to support the roof structure, causing part of the gable wall to be pushed out. Its elements fell onto the district road.
The firefighters secured the scene and checked whether any unauthorized persons were inside the building. Together with the firefighters, the police halted traffic on the road while operations were underway.
They add:
To eliminate the risk of further collapse of the structure onto the road, part of the building was demolished. Bricks and roof-structure elements were removed from the road. The Gromadka Municipality Head cooperated with the firefighters—among other things, he arranged for an excavator to assist with demolishing the building. Representatives of the District Roads Authority and the District Building Supervision Inspectorate also took part.
Let us recall that the incident occurred on Tuesday, January 29, after 7:00 a.m. Firefighters were dispatched to an unoccupied building in Patoka (Gromadka Municipality), which had collapsed.
Fortunately, no one was injured.
As we read on the Facebook profile of the volunteer firefighters from Krzyżowa:
Our actions consisted of securing the scene and removing building elements from the roadway.
Officers from the Bolesławiec and Chojnów County Headquarters of the State Fire Service also took part in the operation, along with OSP Wierzbowa, OSP KSRG Różyniec and the police.
