A meeting between district officers of the District Police Headquarters and bankers took place at the Orzeł Cultural Integration Centre in Bolesławiec.
It was devoted to the issue of fraud resulting in seniors losing their savings.
Police:
The participants were introduced to how criminal groups extorting money operate and how they select potential victims.
The most popular methods used by fraudsters were presented: the “grandchild” and “police officer” scams, in order to draw bank employees’ attention to large sums of money being withdrawn or transferred by seniors.
District officers asked bank representatives who have direct contact with customers to pay particular attention to elderly people who, upset and in a hurry, want to withdraw large sums.
Officers:
In such situations, a bank employee’s interest in the circumstances behind the urgent need to withdraw cash provides an opportunity to obtain information from the senior and prompt them to consider whether their decisions are justified.
Bank employees admitted that they are aware of how fraudsters operate and expressed their willingness to cooperate with the police in situations that appear suspicious.
The officers add:
All training participants stated that it is particularly important for family members to make seniors aware of the dangers they may face in connection with fraud.
