According to figures as of 31 December 2018, 98,711 police officers served in the Polish Police, while the number of vacancies in police garrisons (voivodeships) stood at 4,294 — these are official figures from the Police Headquarters.

Police Headquarters:

There are currently 98,711 police officers employed, which, contrary to opinions expressed by some groups, does not differ significantly from previous years. It should immediately be recalled that since 2017, the establishment of the Polish Police has been increased by 1,000 positions and now stands at 103,309, rather than 102,309 as in previous years.

Looking at the number of police officers serving on 31 December over the past eight years, the fewest officers were employed in 2012 (96,225), when the number of vacancies was as high as 6,084. The most officers served in 2016 (99,938), while the number of vacancies was 2,371. To improve public safety, the establishment of the Polish Police was increased by 1,000 positions in 2017. On 31 December 2017, 98,721 police officers were employed. The current number of employees is 98,711 and is higher than in 2010–2014 and similar to the figures for 2015–2017.

Police officers from the Police Headquarters stress that the number of candidates for service in the police is and has been high (the greatest interest was recorded during the so-called global crisis), but becoming a police officer requires completing a selection procedure that “is far from easy.”

Police:

This includes a knowledge test, a physical fitness test, a psychological test, an interview, assessment of the candidate’s health and fitness for service, and verification of the accuracy of data in records, registers and files. It turns out that many candidates do not achieve a sufficient number of points at the individual stages of the selection process.

Last year, 17,660 people were interested in joining the Police, while 13,186 people were rejected for various reasons.
