As officers established, on 7 January at around 3:45 p.m., a man claiming to be a police officer called a resident of Jelenia Góra. He informed her that hackers were taking over bank accounts and that she could lose the money held in her account.

The alleged police officer expected the woman to give him her bank account details. Fortunately, the Jelenia Góra resident was not fooled. She called her bank from another number, where she was informed that the man who had called was trying to deceive her and extort money from her.
