A female reader wrote to us via Facebook:

On Saturday, near Mrówka, a man shamelessly hit my car and simply drove away, while at the police station there were three other people who had the same problem.

The woman emphasizes that it was not some frightened teenager or beginner driver, but… a man over fifty who had “a whole lot of parking space” at his disposal. She asked us to address the subject in our publication:

Driving away without leaving any details is not a good solution.

The reader is determined to identify the culprit. “Mrówka has surveillance cameras. Everything can be seen in the recording,” she emphasizes. “You can also see people two cars away who do not react at all.”

She adds:

Maybe it would be worth shedding some light on the matter, because people create problems for themselves and others. As a result, the third-party liability insurer will recover the costs from the person who fled.

Does it pay to run away?

No, because as we read on the moto.wp.pl website:

Many people who choose this [...] course of action do not know that even in the case of a scratch or minor collision, the insurer has the right to seek reimbursement from the perpetrator who fled the scene. This means that such a person will have to cover all the costs of repairing the injured party’s car out of their own pocket. In the case of expensive, new cars, even a minor scratch can mean a bill of several thousand zlotys.

It is not worth counting on impunity. In an age of the growing popularity of dashcams and security cameras, the culprit may be found surprisingly easily.
