As stated on the association’s website:

On 19 December 2018, we carried out exhumation work in Wierzbowa, Bolesławiec County. On one private property, we found a mass grave containing the remains of 18 German soldiers who died in February 1945. We recorded numerous injuries on the uncovered bones, mainly broken limbs. Some of the skulls bore traces of gunshots to the back of the head. This was the third wartime grave we had found in Wierzbowa. In 2016, we found two mass graves on the eastern edge of the village. Nine German soldiers and an elderly woman were buried in the first, while the remains of another 25 soldiers lay in the second.

The association asks anyone with information about forgotten (unknown) graves of civilians and soldiers from the period of World War II to contact it. Please call: 601 46 94 94, 61 861 92 75 or email: pomost@pomost.net.pl

Stowarzyszenie Pomost was founded in 1997 by Poles and Germans. Its founders wanted to try, in some way, to repair the harm that had developed between the Polish and German nations, particularly over the preceding 60 years.

Initially, the association’s activities focused on documenting wartime events along the Polish-German border. Later, they expanded to include ecumenical meetings, the upkeep of war cemeteries, archaeological activities and many other joint Polish-German initiatives...
