Following the reconstruction and fitting out of the facility, the ground floor now contains barrier-free rooms:
- a club room with a kitchenette
- a dining room
- a gym
- a nurse’s room
- a rest room
- a cloakroom
- a meal distribution room with a dishwashing area
- toilets.
Occupational therapy workshops and a computer room were created on the upper floor, with access facilitated by an installed stairlift. The garden area was developed by installing outdoor gym equipment and a garden gazebo.
Funding for the renovation came from a grant under the “Senior+” Multiannual Programme for 2015–2020 and from the budget of the City of Bolesławiec. The grant amounted to PLN 232,000, while PLN 113,000 came from the city budget. The construction work was carried out by Zakład Ogólnobudowlany “Rogalski” from Bolesławiec.
It is worth recalling that the facility is a day-support centre providing assistance to elderly and lonely people who require such help because of their age, illness or disability.
It helps seniors maintain good psychophysical fitness, essential for functioning independently for as long as possible—that is, remaining in their own homes and communities. More than 70 people use the Daily Home “Senior+”’s services every day.
The facility also aims to help people of retirement age and those with limited physical fitness organise their everyday lives.
The home cooperates with other facilities and organisations. Children and young people often and eagerly visit the seniors. “The modernised facility is intended to make the centre easier to use for seniors who have mobility problems. It will make it easier for older people to access various forms of activity and rehabilitation, which is a very important element of an older person’s everyday life. That is why the Daily Home “Senior+” is a very important place in our city,” said Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman.
The building on Staroszkolna Street is also home to the Polish Association of the Blind and the Bolesławiec Amazons Association. A branch of the Municipal Public Library is also located on the premises.
Representatives of local authorities, institutions, and partner associations and organisations, as well as members of the Home community, attended the opening. The ceremony was enhanced by an artistic performance by the Municipal Song and Dance Ensemble “Jutrzenka”.
