A blood donation drive held at the Bolesławiec regiment with the participation of the Regional Centre for Blood Donation and Blood Treatment in Wrocław attracted considerable interest from both soldiers and members of the Honorary Blood Donors Club operating at the unit.

Thirty honorary blood donors took part in the drive and on Tuesday donated a total of 13.5 litres of life-saving fluid for 7-year-old Aleks, who suffers from histiocytosis, a very rare bone cancer.

Honorary blood donation has a decades-long tradition in the Bolesławiec garrison. The Honorary Blood Donors Club, which has operated at the unit for more than 30 years, actively participates each year in a dozen or so blood donation drives across Bolesławiec County, as well as initiatives promoting blood donation.

“Blood is a priceless gift of life”—so it is hardly surprising that the number of soldiers wishing to share this invaluable fluid, indispensable in the process of restoring health and saving lives, is steadily increasing.

The next drive is scheduled for after the New Year.
