The poll for the Youth Word of the Year was won by “dzban”. But it is by no means about the vessel shown in the header photo. As we read on spidersweb.pl:

Although, theoretically, everyone can see what a dzban is, the definitions provided by internet users differ from one another—in diplomatic terms, let’s call it a diagnosed degree of intellectual impairment. While some use the word as a humorous, mild reprimand, others treat dzban as a serious, major insult.

Poll juror Marek Łaziński:

From unequivocally negative definitions—“a person whose intellectual level is that of a dzban, meaning none at all”—to the mild “a foolish person, an affectionate name for a friend”. There are also vivid definitions: “someone whom even Solomon could not pour from, because they are misshapen, not very bright and, to put it politely, people do not enjoy their company,” and the concise “a complete idiot”. The most comprehensive definition is: “Anyone can be a dzban. It is enough for them to do something that, in any way, displeases the other person in the conversation. That is how a dzban comes into being.”

What do you think? Do you use this word in this context? And if not, will you start now? We invite you to join the discussion.
