A tax of this type is already in force, for example, in the United Kingdom. As we read on businessinsider.com.pl:
The sugar tax is paid by companies that excessively sweeten their products. The United Kingdom decided to introduce it in April 2018. Data from that month indicate that, even before its introduction, more than 50 percent of manufacturers had changed the composition of the products they offered.
Asked about introducing such a tax, Łukasz Szumowski, head of the health ministry, replied:
Such solutions certainly appear beneficial for patients and for Poles.
He immediately added:
We are in constant contact with Finance Minister Teresa Czerwińska. And this is one of the issues we discuss. It is an important issue, but also a delicate one. Any charges are an extremely sensitive matter.
