In an email to the editorial office, a Reader wrote:

When travelling along the road from Bolesławiec to Iwiny, one can see very old roadside poplars—some of them already dead. Dry branches hang just above the roadway. The current weather is changeable and very windy.

He added:

Some of these branches break off, fortunately without falling onto the road. As far as I can remember, a fairly large branch fell onto the road last year.

Fortunately, there has not yet been an accident. But one only has to look at the photographs, and it does not take much imagination to realise that a tragedy could occur at any moment.

Leszek Loch, head of the Lower Silesian Road and Railway Service:

In November 2017 and in the first quarter of 2018, an assessment of the phytosanitary condition of the trees growing along the DW 363 section from Bolesławiec to Iwiny (Garnczary) was carried out. As a result of the inspections, trees were selected and an application for their felling was submitted to the Warta Bolesławiecka municipality office.

Two felling permits have currently been obtained:

  1. RZK-III 6131.40.2018-2 dated 21 June 2018—136 Canadian poplars—to be removed by 31 December 2019.
  2. RZK-III.6131.72.2018-2 dated 4 October 2018—143 Canadian poplars—to be removed by 31 December 2019.

The director adds:

The decision covering 136 trees was included in the autumn 2018 felling season. A contract for the work has now been signed, and the contractor is beginning the work. The felling covered by decision no. 2 (143 trees) will be put out to tender, with completion scheduled for the first quarter of 2019.

We are awaiting the issuance of a third decision by Bolesławiec municipality for the felling of 40 Canadian poplars located in Łaziska—at the exit from Bolesławiec towards Iwiny.
