The incident took place on Thursday, November 1, a few minutes after 5:00 p.m. in Legnica. The duty officer at the Municipal Police Headquarters, Staff Asp. Zbigniew Kosiorowski, received a call from a man asking for help.
The caller was extremely nervous and, as a result, had difficulty expressing himself. However, he managed to tell the officer that he was driving a Hyundai from the direction of the Copper Smelter and needed to get to the hospital as quickly as possible. He was transporting a woman who was eight months pregnant and bleeding heavily.
The man had to drive across the entire city. Without unnecessary delay, the Legnica duty officer issued an emergency alert to all police patrols. However, they were all too far away.
When the officer saw district police officer Staff Aspirant Dariusz Szczepanek, he ordered him to immediately carry out an escort, naturally with particular caution.
Experience, cooperation and composure resulted in a safe and efficient escort of the vehicle carrying the woman in labor to the Provincial Specialist Hospital on Iwaszkiewicza Street. After just 9 minutes, the expectant mother was already in the delivery room.
A few moments later, the Hyundai driver called the Legnica police emergency number again, this time only to share the wonderful news that he had just become the father of a beautiful baby girl. He added:
“If it weren’t for you, I don’t know how this would have ended...”
