The Irena Sendler “For Repairing the World” Award has been presented to teachers for more than 10 years—teachers who teach and educate in the spirit of dialogue, tolerance and respect for others, inspire activities consistent with these principles, and play an active role in their school and local community.
Through his nomination and distinction, Paweł Domzalski joined the group of Sendler supporters—people who, following the example of Irena Sendler, safeguard memory and defend human beings, their dignity and their rights. The group includes many social activists and educators; for the first time, it has been joined by a teacher from our city and county. The distinction awarded to Mr Domzalski confirms the value of his work, while also recognizing the school community of Zespół Szkół Ogólnokształcących i Zawodowych im. mjra Henryka Sucharskiego, with which he carries it out.
The note presenting the nominees stated:
“Paweł Domzalski teaches Polish and cultural studies at ZSOiZ in Bolesławiec. People and their concerns are his greatest passion, which he tries to instill in his students. For years, he has worked to restore the memory of the Holocaust. He is the author of scripts for the performances: “From the Abyss,” “Reflections from the Waiting Room for Gas,” and “The Children Were to Go to Their Death First.” He transforms his artistic activities into educational projects: “About Jewish Men and Women,” “The Story of Irena Sendler,” and the “Daffodils” campaign. With his students, he addresses refugee and human-rights issues as part of the Good Conversation Club and projects run by Amnesty International, CEO, Polin and PAH. His success and pride lie in sensitizing young people to the dramas of the past and present, as well as in their willingness to act and change the world for the better. That alone is enough to see the legitimacy of the award presented. Congratulations!”
The istotne.pl portal and newspaper extend their heartfelt congratulations on this prestigious distinction.
