In October 2007, we wrote that Primary School No. 1 had received the Certificate of a School Supporting Talent Development. At the end of March this year, the school was visited by a committee composed of representatives of the education authority and the Lower Silesian Centre for Supporting Talent Development, who checked how the school was implementing its talent development support program.

The audit was successful. “We met with representatives of the teaching council and the parents’ council. Both groups confirmed that a great deal is happening at this school in the area of supporting talent development,” says Halina Nawrotek of the Lower Silesian Centre for Supporting Talent Development.

The Lower Silesian Network of Schools Supporting Talent Development includes 33 institutions. “This year we are celebrating the 10th anniversary of the talent development support system,” Nawrotek stresses. “It is the only system of its kind in Poland. We are innovators.”

A healthy mind in a healthy body

“We want to create a school that is modern and friendly at the same time; a school where children can develop,” says Kornel Filipowicz, head of Primary School No. 1. “Every student has talent; you just need to know how to reach them.”

The school focuses primarily on sports education. “But it is not as though we want to train only world champions. Children of this age need plenty of exercise. Anyone can join the sports class,” Filipowicz explains. “At our school, students will find the conditions for comprehensive development,” adds Kazimiera Kozak-Głowacka, deputy head of Primary School No. 1.
