In connection with International Mediation Day, Mediation Week is being held, as it is every year. From 15 to 19 October, between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m., the deputy head of the Investigative Department of the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters will provide information on out-of-court dispute resolution and mediation.

The aim of these activities is to promote mediation as an alternative form of dispute resolution.

A list of mediators operating within the jurisdiction of the Jelenia Góra Regional Court is available on the website of the Bolesławiec District Court.

Mediation is a method of resolving disputes in which a third party helps the parties communicate with each other, identify their interests and the issues to be discussed, and reach a mutually acceptable consensus. This process is voluntary, confidential and informal.

Mediation is a voluntary and confidential process through which the parties seek to resolve a dispute in the presence of a third party they trust—a mediator; the mediator may be a complete stranger to the parties or someone close to them, such as a brother, sister or friend.

The purpose of mediation is to create conditions enabling the parties to reach a voluntary agreement, rather than impose an authoritative solution on them. This distinguishes it from another alternative dispute-resolution method: arbitration.

In the event of a legal dispute, the purpose of mediation is to conclude it, particularly through a settlement reached by the parties as a result of mediation, determining the amount of compensation or damages or imposing other legal duties and obligations on the parties.
