Grażyna Hanaf, a frequent guest at the school library, presented the most interesting aspects of the work of a tour guide and tour leader. The journalist and leader of foreign tours for the Itaka travel agency took the students and their form teachers, Lucyna Hajduk and Marta Śliwowska, on a virtual tour of Paris. Watching the multimedia presentation, the students embarked on a fascinating journey through one of the world’s most popular tourist destinations: the City of Light, Paris.

Why Paris? It is the capital of fashion and culture, a place where one can enjoy an elegant dinner or be content with a baguette and a bottle of wine outdoors. Paris is magical at any time of day. Grażyna Hanaf spoke vividly about this multicultural, multi-ethnic city and her travels. Her stories evoked an image like the one in Schulz’s “The Cinnamon Shops,” where one enters the city, takes uncertain steps, but keeps going. When we discover what is inside, we suddenly find that what others have described takes on a different meaning, because we see the city in a completely different way. Entirely our own way. Thank you for this unique opportunity to explore the secrets of the French capital, and we look forward impatiently to further meetings with you.

ZSOiZ Library receives a certificate

Thanks to the efforts of teacher-librarians Sylwia Czernatowicz, Aneta Antczak and Paweł Domzalski, the library was awarded the School Caring About Reading certificate. Among other things, it confirms that the library is welcoming to every reader and that its priority is to instill a passion for reading in students.

The certificate is the result of numerous activities undertaken by the School Library in 2016 and of implementing the adopted objectives. All the library’s planned activities were subordinated to the following general aims:

  • increasing students’ and teachers’ interest in the school library’s collection
  • promoting reading and developing reading skills
  • engaging students and parents in reading initiatives
  • supporting teachers in their educational and care-related work
  • developing the habit of active participation in library projects
  • shaping an attitude of respect for Poland’s cultural, historical and regional heritage

To achieve these aims, we create and make use of every opportunity: lessons, school projects, trips to the cinema and theatre, extracurricular activities, support for personal development, the development of talents and passions, and numerous reading, literary and photography competitions. We attach great importance to cooperation with parents and the local community. Our experience so far convinces us that the Parents’ Council and institutions and agencies operating in our surroundings help us achieve our adopted objectives: the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre, the Old Theatre, the Museum of Ceramics, Bolesławiec bookshops, as well as departments of the Bolesławiec District Office supporting our School Library, for which we are particularly grateful.
