As reported by wnp.pl:
Law and Justice deputies are calling for the establishment of a new national holiday. A parliamentary bill establishing the National Day of Remembrance of the Unbroken Priests on October 19 has just been submitted to the Sejm.
Under the bill, the National Day of Remembrance of the Unbroken Priests would be a national holiday, observed on October 19.
The bill’s justification states:
The establishment of the National Day of Remembrance of the Unbroken Priests is an expression of tribute to priests who, through their conduct, bore witness to their faith in Jesus Christ, as well as to their courage and steadfast patriotic attitude, and who on numerous occasions shed their blood in defense of their Christian Homeland—Poland.
The date on which the holiday is to be observed is not accidental—it is the day of the abduction and the beginning of the martyrdom of Father Jerzy Popiełuszko.
