Officers from the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec received a report from a 29-year-old resident of Lwówek County about a vehicle theft. The man explained that when he was leaving Bolesławiec, he gave a hitchhiker a lift. He said he did not remember what happened next.
The 29-year-old claimed that he woke up the following morning near the place where the aforementioned traveler had got into his car.
The police took up the case, and it quickly turned out that none of the information provided by the “victim” was true. What is more, the 29-year-old was not even in Bolesławiec at the time.
As it turned out, the man wanted to hide from his mother the fact that he had wrecked the car and abandoned it. The 29-year-old will now face charges of reporting a crime that had not been committed. He faces up to two years in prison.
