Police officers will watch over the safety of travelers on the roads of Dolny Śląsk. However, nothing can replace drivers’ common sense and compliance with safety rules and traffic regulations. Passengers also have a major influence on safety while driving, as their assertive attitude often affects the driver’s behavior on the road.

At this time, increased traffic on the roads—and consequently a greater risk of incidents—is to be expected. Therefore, Lower Silesian police officers are beginning intensified checks today, which will continue until Thursday. Officers will serve in marked and unmarked police cars. They will be equipped, among other things, with devices for measuring speed and sobriety.

Police officers will pay particular attention to speed, drivers’ sobriety and the proper execution of maneuvers, especially overtaking, because these factors remain the most common causes of road accidents, particularly those with tragic consequences. Officers will also check the use of seat belts and devices for safely transporting children.

In addition to ongoing roadside checks, Lower Silesian officers are also conducting preventive activities. During meetings with residents, as well as during roadside checks, they remind people about safe-driving rules. They warn about dangers that may occur on the road. However, safety while driving largely depends on us. Increased police checks are intended to remind us not to drive recklessly.

Let us remember that while driving, we are responsible not only for our own safety but also for the people traveling with us. We appeal to all drivers to exercise particular caution, use common sense and, above all, comply with traffic regulations. Under no circumstances should we get behind the wheel after drinking alcohol.

What rules should be followed?

  • check the vehicle’s technical condition and equipment (a warning triangle and fire extinguisher),
  • check the necessary documents (driving license, third-party liability insurance and registration certificate with up-to-date technical inspections),
  • always use seat belts and devices for safely transporting children while driving
  • observe speed limits and adjust speed to the prevailing weather and road conditions
  • remember the principle of limited trust, especially toward pedestrians and two-wheeled vehicle users—they are not always visible on the road
  • when setting out on a longer journey, plan breaks
  • be rested, relaxed and, above all, sober.

Moreover, truck drivers should remember the traffic restrictions and bans (this applies to vehicles with a permissible gross vehicle weight exceeding 12 tons): August 14 (from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.) and August 15 (from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.).

On the remaining days: Friday, from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.; Saturday, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.; Sunday—from 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.
