Officials from Powiat Bautzen, a partner of Powiat Bolesławiecki, are visiting Bolesławiec. On Friday, August 10, a meeting of Polish and German officials was held in the conference room of the District Office. The Bolesławiec starosta Karol Stasik spoke:

The partnership between Powiat Bautzen and Powiat Bolesławiecki began in 2001. Over the years, our cooperation has focused primarily on education and culture. But the time has come to expand this mutual cooperation. An example is the project we are currently implementing, whose aim is to gain a mutual understanding of how county offices operate on the Polish and German sides.

Karol Stasik mentioned that the scope of cooperation between Powiat Bolesławiecki and Powiat Bautzen had already begun to expand last year, when both local governments carried out a tourism project. Now, the offices are jointly implementing a very important educational project, primarily involving the redevelopment of the special school in Bolesławiec. “I would like to thank the starosta Michaelowi Harigowi and deputy starosta Udo Witschasowi for such a broad range of activities,” added the head of the Bolesławiec District Board.

The Bolesławiec starosta also invited the German officials to the Bolesławiec Ceramic Festival, which Powiat Bolesławiecki—as Lower Silesia’s Capital of Culture—is co-organizing this year, as well as to next year’s edition of the Week with the Powiat.

K. Stasik added that he was pleased to welcome the German guests to the new seat of the District Office: “In this building, we have significantly improved the conditions both for providing services to residents and for officials’ work. We are pleased that we finally have a decent office worthy of Europe.”

Michael Harig, head of Powiat Bautzen:

I see many positive changes here. And this is not just politeness on my part. In terms of infrastructure, the appearance of the town and many other matters, Powiat Bolesławiecki has made significant progress.

The starosta of Powiat Bautzen added: “I hope that this meeting will lead to personal and professional contacts among the officials, because I know that we can help each other a great deal.”

During Friday’s meeting, the heads of the individual departments of both offices were introduced. In addition, the German visitors later had an opportunity to tour, among other places, the new seat of the District Office in Bolesławiec, as well as the excellently equipped workshops at one of the district’s schools—the Zespół Szkół Mechanicznych.
