Like every plant, the 1,300-year-old Henryk yew from Henryków Lubański (Lubań Municipality, Lubań County) is struggling with the relentless heat. That is why arborists are taking care to protect it from sunburn and maintain the proper soil moisture. Special pumps and misting devices are used for this purpose.

In extreme situations, the tree receives as much as 300–400 litres of water at a time. All procedures are carried out with the utmost care, because given the yew’s age, there is no room for even the slightest error.

Lubań Municipality began the yew rescue operation in 2014 and spares no expense on it. In the future, the local government plans to purchase the land on which the majestic tree—the Municipality’s emblematic landmark—stands and create a tourist attraction around it.
