On the night from Saturday to Sunday, a large fire broke out in the Węgliniec Forest District, in the Krucze Gniazdo Forest Range, covering 4.68 hectares of forest stands. Węgliniec Forest District:
The fire was probably caused by arson. Firefighting operations began at 2:00 a.m. and continued until 11:00 p.m. Three Dromader firefighting aircraft from the Regional Directorate of State Forests in Wrocław, one Antonov aircraft from the Regional Directorate of State Forests in Zielona Góra, and 15 fire engines took part in the operation.
Unfortunately, this was not the end of the operation. On July 9, the following post appeared on the page of volunteer firefighters from Węgliniec:
After more than twenty hours of firefighting in the forest [...] the OSP Węgliniec crew was dispatched again to “extinguish the remaining fire in the affected area.” On July 9, crew 609-25 worked for another 13 hours. The firefighters were again supported by firefighting aircraft.
The firefighters added:
Crews from JRG PSP Zgorzelec, JRG PSP Bolesławiec, and OSP Studniska also operated at the scene.
