Road Traffic Department officers, who monitor drivers’ psychophysical condition on a daily basis, noticed a 23-year-old man standing near the reception desk and behaving very nervously. After the man left the KMP building, the police decided to check whether he had arrived at the station by car.
The officers’ police instinct did not let them down. Several hundred metres from the station, the man got into the driver’s seat of a Volkswagen and drove off towards Wrocławska Street. The police immediately followed him in order to stop him for a roadside check and determine whether he was under the influence of drugs.
A few minutes later, another man reported to the duty officer for police supervision. This time, he was 32 years old. As officers from the Legnica traffic police were leaving the building, they noticed a man standing near the reception desk who was well known to them from previous roadside checks.
When the man left the station, he got into the driver’s seat of a Chrysler parked near police headquarters and drove away. The officers immediately followed him in order to stop him for a roadside check and determine whether he was under the influence of drugs.
The result? Both men who had reported for supervision were indeed under the influence of amphetamine-group narcotics.
The 23-year-old had his driving licence confiscated, while the 32-year-old no longer had one because he had lost it several months earlier for… driving under the influence of drugs.
Thanks to the vigilance and swift reaction of the Road Traffic Department officers, the reckless drivers were arrested shortly afterwards and removed from traffic.
The two criminal masterminds could now face up to two years behind bars.
