The incident occurred on June 11. Before 9 p.m., the duty officer at the Lubin police station received a report that the driver of a heavy goods vehicle had damaged crash barriers at the intersection of national road No. 3 and Wrocławska Street in Lubin and driven away from the scene. A road traffic patrol was immediately dispatched. Shortly afterward, officers received another report that, in a different part of the city, the same truck driver had damaged traffic lights and a road sign. Witnesses, including an off-duty police officer, saw the entire incident. They forced the truck driver to stop. They took his keys and waited for the uniformed officers.
The driver turned out to be a 57-year-old resident of Rybnik County. The man was completely drunk; he had nearly 3‰ of alcohol in his system. The 57-year-old lost his driving licence and was taken into police custody. He now faces up to two years in prison.
Several hours earlier, Lubin police officers had detained another irresponsible driver. The 45-year-old from Lubin, who was driving a passenger car, had more than 3‰ of alcohol in his system. He, too, could face up to two years behind bars.
