The accident occurred before 1 a.m. on the A18 route near Różyniec, not far from Bolesławiec. The truck driver, travelling towards Wrocław, decided to turn around at a place where there was no barrier. Three vehicles—two passenger cars and a minibus—travelling towards Olszyna hit its trailer. A fire broke out. Four people burned to death. Ambulances took six other injured people, including the truck driver, to hospital. Their lives are not in danger, and they are in good condition.

“The fire must have reached a high temperature, certainly above 1,000 degrees. I have not seen such a tragedy in a long time,” says Grzegorz Kocon, commander of the State Fire Service in Bolesławiec. “The truck driver is in shock. As soon as he recovers, he will be questioned,” says Sebastian Woźniak, assessor at the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec.

The driver, as we have learned, is Russian-speaking and was travelling to Kazakhstan.
