Reader informed us that the Bolesławiec Water Park “Orka” is facing paralysis, or even closure. The reason? A group of qualified lifeguards who – according to an anonymous source – earned only slightly more than the minimum wage demanded a pay rise. They also prepared a letter on the matter addressed to Orka’s president, the head of the District Heating Company in Bolesławiec (Orka is currently subordinate to ZEC), and the mayor of Bolesławiec.

The lifeguards wanted to earn several hundred złoty more per month. According to the Reader, these were by no means excessive demands. Especially since they concerned people with university degrees who had completed appropriate courses, most of which they had paid for out of their own pockets.

And since there was no response, seven Orka employees submitted their notices at the beginning of June. Our source claims that there are not enough people in the county with the necessary qualifications to fill the gap. He adds that if, for example, only one lifeguard is assigned to a shift, Orka’s management will thereby expose its customers to the risk of injury or even loss of life.

The Reader points out that the silver lining is that it is currently the season. And if Orka is indeed closed, those who want to swim at a supervised facility will be able to use other pools in Bolesławiec. But what about the so-called regular customers?

Robert Tomczyk, president of the Bolesławiec Water Park, stressed in a conversation with the istotne.pl portal that there is no problem and that it is untrue that the facility is facing paralysis. Orka has been managing for eight years and will continue to do so. And there is no shortage of lifeguards.

We will return to this topic.
