The expansion of the district heating network in the Market Square area is one of the largest investments by the District Heating Company in Bolesławiec. An offer to connect to the heating system was extended to more than sixty housing communities. It includes the supply of heat for central heating and domestic hot water. The network expansion will also provide greater comfort and safety. Construction work will begin on Armii Krajowej Street.
“The scale of the investment, its specific nature and the historic part of the city create numerous obstacles for the investment process. Consequently, during the summer, pedestrian and vehicular traffic disruptions will occur in the developed city blocks surrounding the Market Square. We would nevertheless like to add that the project has been planned in a way that will allow new customers to be connected in the future without the need to occupy the inner city blocks again. We count on the understanding of the residents of central Bolesławiec and everyone who will experience the inconveniences associated with this major investment,” informs Rafał Koronkiewicz, president of ZEC.
The District Heating Company is also carrying out construction work in the green belt between Tysiąclecia Street and the multi-family housing developments on Jana Pawła II Street. “District heating networks built in our city in the 1970s and 1980s are being systematically replaced. The risk of failures caused by the inevitable corrosion of pipelines after 30–40 years makes preventive action necessary. Complete replacement of the network is the best such measure,” stresses R. Koronkiewicz.
As part of the reconstruction of the local district heating network on Jana Pawła II Street, traditional pipelines running through the basements of residential buildings will be replaced with a pre-insulated network laid underground. Residents will no longer be exposed to the possibility of local leaks in the traditional network and their basements being flooded with hot network water. In addition, pre-insulated pipe technology equipped with alarm wires makes it possible to remotely monitor the technical condition of the district heating network and respond immediately in the event of mechanical damage to the pipelines’ protective casing, thereby increasing the safety of uninterrupted heat supplies to customers.
“The use of pre-insulated technology also makes it possible to reduce heat losses during transmission, which is reflected in the setting of the Heat Tariff, that is, the level of heat charges. Improving the heating system in Bolesławiec is our priority, but it also requires annual construction work,” says the president of ZEC.
