In our newspaper, we reported that three burglars responsible for a series of break-ins in Nowogrodziec gmina had been arrested by the police. One was temporarily detained by court order. The two accomplices of the repeat offender were placed under police supervision.

The case, however, continues to reverberate. On 25 May, the Mayor of Nowogrodziec Gmina sent a letter to the governor asking for support for the local police, whose actions so far, in the local official’s view, have produced no results. Although the document contains no specific references to this type of crime in recent days. And the main wave of burglaries took place at the beginning of May!

Moreover, warnings are appearing online (including on The Bad Bunzlauer) that the criminals are still watching houses in the gmina, except that they are now doing so with drones.

As we have established, not a single burglary has occurred in the gmina since the three burglars were arrested. (One attempted crime was reported, but at the scene it turned out that there were no traces indicating an attempted break-in).

It cannot, admittedly, be ruled out that the burglars are using drones. But again: there were recently First Communions, and many parents bought these devices for their children. (Just as people once bought watches or kites, they now buy drones. Signum temporis).

“It is not the case that we rested on our laurels once the three suspects were arrested,” istotne.pl was assured by Anna Kublik-Rościszewska, press spokesperson for the Bolesławiec police. “We are continuing our operational activities.”

We will certainly return to this subject.

Let us recall. In mid-May, we wrote that several dozen burglaries had recently taken place in Bolesławiec County; the perpetrators acted in a similar way each time. After overcoming security measures and taking advantage of the residents being asleep, they entered living quarters. They stole money and other items.

Bolesławiec officers:

This case was the highest priority for the officers. Police checked every detail, identified people who might have been involved in the criminal activity, and analyzed traces secured by a forensic technician at the crime scenes. They also worked closely with the County Police Headquarters in Zgorzelec.

The efforts ultimately produced the desired result: three men who had committed these acts were arrested. They are residents of Zgorzelec County, aged between 29 and 32.

The evidence collected allowed the police to bring several burglary charges against the detainees. Some of the stolen property was recovered.

By court order, two of the perpetrators were placed under police supervision, while the third was temporarily detained for three months.

All three had previously been in conflict with the law. One of them is a multiple repeat offender.

Ten days later, the head of Nowogrodziec gmina sent the following letter to the Lower Silesian governor:

On behalf of the local community of the Gmina and City of Nowogrodziec, I appeal for intervention assistance in the operations of the police services at the Nowogrodziec Police Station.

Given the growing concern and escalating tensions among Residents, I believe that we are already dealing with a crisis situation or its consequences, which may have irreversible effects.

For several months, an organized criminal group has been robbing Residents of our Gmina. Many of the Residents are elderly people who are being robbed of their pensions and retirement benefits, as well as valuables. Fear of the thieves is affecting their mental health […].

We appreciate and support the police’s committed efforts; however, given limited staffing reserves and resources, they are currently producing no results. The local police undoubtedly need support from criminal investigation services of other police units [...] Residents are organizing themselves into citizen patrols, which are exposed to all kinds of incidental risks. [...] Tensions in relations with the police are growing, while the community’s trust is declining.

In my opinion, the appeal deserves serious consideration and is not in the form of a complaint. The Nowogrodziec local government declares that it will provide all assistance within its authority.
