In May this year, officers from the Prevention Department of the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra, together with forest guards from the “Śnieżka” Forest District in Kowary and the Forest Districts in Szklarska Poręba, Lwówek Śląski, Jawor and Złotoryja, have been conducting operations in the Jelenia Góra Valley targeting quad-bike and dirt-bike riders who violate applicable laws by entering the forest. During the operations, officers fined a group of dirt-bike riders a total of PLN 15,000 for illegally entering the forest and persistently frightening animals.

Moreover, last weekend officers detained a German national riding a dirt bike in a forested area. The man was held in police custody and then brought before the District Court in Jelenia Góra, where he was fined PLN 3,000 for illegally entering the forest and damaging the forest floor.

The joint operations by forest guards and uniformed officers are intended not only to prevent damage to nature but also to make walkers feel safer. Officials announce that, due to the major nuisance caused to residents and violations of applicable regulations, people riding quad bikes or dirt bikes who illegally enter the forest will be brought before a court.
