On 8 May, at approximately 1:10 p.m., an officer from Police Station I in Jelenia Góra, who was off duty and on a bicycle trip with his brother, a Polish Armed Forces soldier, noticed a man near a footbridge by one of Jelenia Góra’s bridges cutting a telephone cable with an axe. The officer immediately notified the duty officer at the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra, who dispatched a patrol to the scene.
The man suspected of stealing cables began to flee when he saw the uniformed officers and then tried to hide in a nearby building. He was highly aggressive, did not respond to commands and kept waving the axe, threatening the police officers.
The aggressor was subdued and arrested. He was taken to police detention. It turned out that the 25-year-old resident of Jelenia Góra had damaged 50 metres of cable, causing disruptions to the network. The injured company is still assessing its losses.
The 25-year-old could now face up to eight years in prison.
