Popular Krępnica, the reservoir in the village of Krępnica in Bolesławiec Municipality, belongs to the Polish Angling Association. It is a 54-hectare area, for the lease of which our anglers pay a considerable amount of money.
When the weather gets warm, local residents flock to Krępnica—especially at weekends—to swim (although this is prohibited) and have barbecues. The worst part, however, is that people who want to cool off by the water on hot days often leave a mess behind. And the anglers have to pay for waste collection… anglers who, incidentally, bought the rubbish bins with their own money.
After all, active anglers pay PLN 220 a year for the opportunity to fish. And when they come to Krępnica, they have to listen to disco music. They complain to Janusz Latoch, commander of the Bolesławiec County Social Fishing Guard, that the area around the reservoir is a mess. It has even got to the point where J. Latoch takes rubbish bags with him when going to inspect one of the reservoirs.
Last year, one Bolesławiec angling club paid nearly PLN 5,000 for removing rubbish, 99% of which was not left by fishing enthusiasts. As the head of the Social Fishing Guard told the istotne.pl portal, the angling community intends to do something about the problem. Ad hoc, an idea emerged: introduce an entrance fee for Krępnica. For now, however, it is not known when it would be introduced or how much it would be. It might be PLN 5, or perhaps PLN 10. The money would at least partly cover the costs of cleaning the area around the reservoir. (Anglers have already introduced a similar solution at the reservoir in Wojanów, in Jelenia Góra County).
We have written many times in these pages about the mess left by litterbugs in various places across our county. We have also often asked for comment on the issue when it concerned the City of Ceramics—from the municipal police or the Municipal Housing Management Facility. We understand that this problem cannot be eliminated completely. We know that the services cannot be on duty in one place around the clock.
Perhaps it is therefore worth AGAIN—perhaps somewhat naively—appealing to fans of spending time outdoors (and drinking) to take their rubbish with them. All the more so now that spring is in full swing and Bolesławiec residents are certainly visiting waterside areas more often. And quite often with small children.
We will return to the subject.
